Getting Started

How many people do I need in my team?

As little or as many as you like! We consider a team to be any number of people with a Team Captain. As a good average, we would suggest 3 or more people might generate more funds for our cause, whilst if you're willing to go it alone, that's ok too.

I'm under 18, can I still participate?

Absolutely, simply register as a youth participant and enter your parent or carer’s details. Let them know you’re signing up and ask them to check over the Terms and Conditions which you’ll see during your registration. If you’re signing up as a Team Captain, we’ll reach out to them so they have our contact details.

How much do I need to fundraise?

This is completely up to you. However, there are prizes up for grabs if you fundraise over a certain amount for your registration type.

For adults, everyone who raises over $250 will go in the draw to win the lucky registration prize. For youth participants, everyone who raises over $100 will go into this same draw.

There are also prizes for the highest individual fundraiser and the highest fundraising team.

Can I use any basketball hoop? Does it need to be an actual court?

That's the beauty of this challenge - you can do it anywhere! No need for a proper court if you don't have one close by. Any basketball hoop or netball hoop is fine (even a mini-hoop on the back of the toilet door is ok!). It's not about the right equipment, it's about the right attitude. If you can go through the process of sinking baskets wherever and whenever it suits you best, you're doing it right.

If you do actually want to find a basketball court to set up sessions with your team, try your local council website or google maps. There are plenty around.

Can I register each of my team members on their behalf?

No. We need each participant to register themselves. This way they are agreeing to the terms and conditions, they have consented to us obtaining their contact information and they are fully aware of the awesome prizes up for grabs!

My school wants to take part. What do we need to do?

Simply idenitfy who your Team Captain is going to be and then register your school team under their name. We would suggest you add your School name in your Team name so we know who you are representing.

You might find that your school wants to create numerous teams - perhaps one for each year level or each class, so everyone can see who is fundraising the most!

Each youth participant will need either their parent's contact details or their teachers contact details to be completed for consent to participate. Whoever is listed as the adult will be communicated with regarding the challenge, so it's important to get this part right!

I'd really like to win the prizes. When will they be drawn?

The draw for each of the prize categories closes at 10am on Monday 3 July 2023. At this time, funds shown live on the website as banked will be the final amounts (we recommend that you allow 2 days for processing final banking amounts prior to this date).

The winners will be notified within a week of the draw by email and phone.

We will also invite each of the winners for a photo to capture the moment!

Where does my money actually go?

It costs approximately $1million to establish one campus of The BUSY Schools and operate it for a year.

We have 7 campuses right now, all of which take considerable time, resources and money to achieve their mission.

The number of disengaged students is on an upwards trajectory, with more than 4,000 students and their families now seeking these supportive learning environments. Demand for our current schools means they are now reaching capacity and the need for this support is not being met in other regions.

As we continue to identify the geographical regions that have the greatest need for our schools, we make plans to establish new campuses.

The funds raised will go directly towards the costs of establishing new campuses where they are needed most.

Campus expenses include:

  • Student uniforms
  • Student catering (breakfast and lunch items)
  • Equipment and stationary
  • Curriculum and course resources
  • Student excursions
  • Work readiness programs and support staff
  • Awards and graduations
  • Health and guidance support
  • Office consumables and IT support
  • Building and equipment maintenance
  • Leasehold and utilities
  • Marketing and administration
  • Educators and school staff
  • Additional supports for alumni

Our vision is to have more young people completing school, more young people in meaningful employment and as a result, exposing more communities to positive change.

With your help, we can continue to nurture students through their final years of secondary schooling and support them to find their pathway to further training or employment.

Can I collect cash donations for my fundraising? How do I bank these?

We recommend working with digital currency wherever possible. However, some cash donations are likely to be inevitable. Give this cash to either the Team Captain or a member of the team, to transact the funds through their fundraising page.
